Headed up to Haulover with Jonah Saturday night. I wanted to test the new gig (Proto #2) and try to get some of those Indian River invertebrates. It was a little different this time because we had to launch the boat at the Max Brewer Bridge and run the channel to Haulover Canal due to that space shuttle thing on the pad. The run was fine in the daylight but it was a little treacherous during the 40 minute return run at night. We picked up 8 medium blue crabs right off the bat but we didn’t see many more after that (or the rest of the night, for that matter). The shrimp were running surprisingly well; we ended a long night with 2 gallons of MONSTER JUMBOS. Unfortunately, the water was far too murky to gig. We were only able to see one small flounder on the shore during the short time we looked. Oh well, I’ll try “my precious” again some other time.
